DevOps Engineer

We are seeking a full-time DevOps Engineer to join the team. We are based in Santa Cruz, CA, but this position would work out of Santa Cruz, CA or Denver, CO.

Position Summary

The DevOps Engineer is responsible for the deployment, monitoring, troubleshooting, automating and maintenance of critical application platforms from development through production. This role will work collaboratively with business and technology stakeholders to deploy and operate key infrastructure, help automate and streamline operations, build and maintain tools for deployment and operations, and troubleshoot and resolve issues in our development, test and production environments. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in the IT industry including Systems Administration and Change Management, Software Configuration Management (SCM), Micro Services Architecture, creation of highly automated and scalable infrastructures, Build and Release management (CI/CD) and Process Engineering.

Specific Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Develop a release management framework and implement standards, processes, and controls for configuration and release activities within a fast pace Agile/SCRUM environment
  • Create development, test, and production environments from scratch in AWS with CI/CD
  • Design, implement and configure build environments including automated builds, packaging, installation, and verification processes
  • Architect and implement metrics required to measure availability and consistency of internal network architecture and services
  • Execute and troubleshoot manual/automated builds, identifying the root cause for a failed build and resolve the issues
  • Ensure systems & network security, maintain performance, and set up monitoring using Cloud Watch and Nagios
  • Manage all aspects of the end-to-end release process
  • Analyze and resolve complex infrastructure and application issues
  • Communicate updates clearly with key stakeholders
  • Ensure coordination of development and test teams
  • Perform other tasks and additional projects as assigned

Skills and Abilities:

  • Expert in CI/CD Pipeline setup and automation, utilizing Jenkins/GitHub Actions and AWS resources
  • Ability to develop and maintain build, deployment scripts for development, test, staging, and production environments using GitHub, ANT, Maven, Shell/Python/Terraform and Perl Scripts
  • Understanding of network topologies and common network protocols and services (DNS, HTTP(S), SSH, FTP, SMTP)
  • Solid skills and understanding of databases (PostgresSQL and MySQL)
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing, with technical and non-technical audiences
  • Acute attention to detail
  • Proven experience working with Agile teams

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, IT, IS, or equivalent area of technical study
  • 4+ years working as a DevOps Engineer in a 24×7 uptime environment, including automation experience with configuration management tools (e.g., Ansible, Puppet, SaltStack, or Chef)
  • Knowledgeable in micro services application deployment with container orchestration services (Kubernetes) using docker
  • Prefer experience using JIRA for task management
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Azure including AzureDomain Services, VDI, MFA, Security Management, Data factory, and Domain Replication Services
  • Prefer experience with Firewalls and securing networks, specifically SonicWall, Ubiquity
  • Prefer experience with OnPrem Domain Architecture and utilization
  • Prefer experience Setting up doing site surveys for wireless networks for optimal WAP placement
  • Prefer experience with VMWare versions 6.-> 7.x
  • Must be able to work flexible schedule with ability to adjust to demands of business
